Crop calcium deficiency is harmful, how to effectively supplement calcium?

The calcium requirements of plants vary greatly depending on the type of crop and genetic characteristics. It is generally believed that when the content of soil exchangeable calcium is> 1 μmol/100g, the crop will not be deficient in calcium. But in the past 30 years, there have been continuous reports of calcium deficiency in plants. What are the reasons for calcium deficiency in plants?

1. The soil itself has low calcium content

Calcium-deficient soils in China are mainly distributed in acidic red soils and sandy soils with low cation exchange capacity in the south, and calcium is lost due to leaching.

2. The planting area of economic crops is getting larger and larger, and the calcium demand of crops is also increasing.

Dicotyledonous plants are more sensitive to calcium, and crops that require more calcium include tomatoes, peppers, Chinese cabbage, grapes, watermelons, etc. Crops are relatively prone to calcium deficiency symptoms during the fruit expansion period.

3, nutrient element imbalance

A large amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer was applied without paying attention to the application of calcium fertilizer, which led to the imbalance of nutrient elements. Excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer causes soil acidification, and hydrogen ions in the soil replace calcium and magnesium ions, resulting in the loss of calcium;

4, root dysplasia, the ability to absorb calcium decreased

Poor soil properties, continuous drought or excessive humidity, affecting root development, root infection will lead to root dysplasia, decreased ability to absorb calcium.

5, poor mobility of calcium

The long-distance transport of calcium in plants mainly occurs in the xylem, and its transport power is transpiration. Young leaves and fruits have poor transpiration, and calcium is difficult to move to these parts.
