Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN) is a clear, colorless liquid nitrogen fertilizer. It is an aqueous solution made by dissolving urea and ammonium nitrate in water.
Common formulations typically contain 28–32% total nitrogen (N) by weight, with nitrogen present in three forms:
Ammoniacal nitrogen (NH₄⁺) – fast-acting
Nitrate nitrogen (NO₃⁻) – immediately available
Ureic nitrogen (CO(NH₂)₂) – gradually converted to plant-available forms
Main uses:
Agriculture: Broadcast spraying, side-dressing, and fertigation in crop production
Industrial: Component in explosive emulsions (ANFO alternatives) and wastewater treatment
